Trekking
When Bill Tilman stepped into the luxurious shade of the British Embassy compound on arrival in Kathmandu in May 1949, he can have had little idea that the odyssey upon which he was about to embark would eventually bring fame, fortune and thousands of people from every corner of the globe to the tiny Himalayan kingdom of Nepal.
His exploratory forays to the Kali Gandaki, Langtang and the Khumbu (Everest region) were the first ever foreign treks in Nepal, beginning a tradition that has transformed the country. In 1960 the first trekking permits were issued, and the following year British climber Eric Shipton led the first commercial trek to the Everest Base Camp of Everest region. Today, thousands of trekkers from around the world trek the most popular trekking regions of Nepal such as Everest base camp, Annapurna base camp, Langtang valley trek, Mustang trek, Manaslu trek, Kanchenjunga base camp etc.The recently launched 1700 km ,Great Himalayan Trail trek has lured the trekkers since the last few years.
